Okay, so it’s rare to find good(or any) werewolf movie these days. The last one was Underworld prequel. The Wolfman may not be a very original rare gem, but it ends up as a pretty entertaining film.

Director: Joe Johnston.

Cast: Benecio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt.

What’s It About

Benecio Del Toro‘s character has got daddy issues, so he’s been away for a very long time. When he learns that his brother’s been missing in a mysterious way from the words of his brother’s fiance, he returns home to find out what happened. It’s suffice to say that he becomes a werewolf(omg was that a spoiler!), now he’s on a quest to get rid of the beast inside him while finding out a lot about his past, the hard way!

The Pros

The acting is spot-on! It’s not a surprise though, Anthony Hopkins always nails his roles and Benecio Del Toro was as he always is. Emily did a good job with her role, as I never saw her before in a movie. And although I had issues with the “role” he played but Hugo Weaving actually did good(I freaking hate The Matrix!). Overall, really good acting.

I was afraid of the fact that from the trailer, it made it seem like the plot was very “on the surface”. But I was wrong, there is more to the story & maybe I did saw the twist(in the middle of the movie’s runtime) coming but not the way I expected it to be. Nice job there! Also I predicted a cliche, I thought the climax would be quite “Hulk-ish”(you’ll know when) but it wasn’t which was a  good thing.

Adrenaline. I love vampire or werewolf rampages, hence Underworld & 30 Days Of Night being my favorite sub-genre film. There’s plenty of rampages to be had here. The kills looked really good and I thought they wouldn’t go for brutal gore, but they did! Good stuff.

The cinematography is beautiful. The look of the film was awesome.

The Cons

This was distracting. The reason for Hugo Weaving‘s character for being there was never really explained. He’s a Scotland Yard agent, most probably hunting down Del Toro’s character suspecting that he’s a lunatic. That’s all we get but I was hoping that he would come off more important to the plot. He takes one for the team though!

The film, is not really something special. It is very entertaining mind you, but is also quite forgettable by the judgment of it’s budget.

Basically, anyone with a love for the “werewolf” genre should at least check this out. Grade:- A.

Manson’s role in his new film calls him for a new band! This is what the producer of Pressman said at Cannes:

“Marilyn is a death metal rocker, which is a different kind of music than he’s known for. He’s going to form a new band for the film… that would record or tour for this new entity.” He also said, “Evan is one of these two Splatter Sisters. They’re… totally alienated from their families, who are not good to them, and they take on a vagabond life. They’re on the road… to go to Hollywood. They’re fans of Marilyn’s band and become indoctrinated under his spell in the movie.”

Now this sounds freaking cool! I wasn’t intrigued about the idea of the film when I first heard about it(click here) but this just made me interested. I am not that big a fan of Manson’s music but there are a couple of his soundtracks that I love wholeheartedly(“If I Was Your Vampire” being the most favorite). I’m not also a fan of death-metal(I keep it to rock, groove, nu, thrash metal & Eminem!). Still, I will be waiting to see how he takes on the genre.

What do you think about this?

Okay so this a new addition to this blog, script reviews. I love reading unproduced horror scripts, they show originality in one way or another. I read this one a few days back but couldn’t post a review because I’m very busy until 28th May, anyways I decided to keep the script reviews short(’cause I have ADD).

Written by Henrik Holmberg.

Plot: A everyday nice guy(Seth), seems to have everything in his life, a wife he loves, the perfect job, a reliable buddy and etc etc. His life turns upside down when he replied a spam mail. The spammer seems to be desperate, so Seth’s buddy decides to mess with the spammer but it doesn’t go too well because unlike other spammers this guy seems to be pushing the envelope a little too far.

Review: The script never feels like a horror until the end, more like a psychological thriller. It was definitely a good read for me cuz time flew by when I was reading the 83 page script. The elements in it does peek into disturbing territory at times but never goes too far, keeps it simple. Yes there’s cliche dialogues but I feel like it was intentional of the writer. The ending was sorta predictable but good nonetheless, it introduced some blood to the otherwise tame script. And despite his annoying dialogue, I liked the character of Seth’s buddy(Rob). So, I’m not sure how good it’ll do as a feature film(probably pretty good) but I had a good time reading it.

Ah I loved Hatchet. Adam Green did something outstanding with that movie. I loved Joel Moore in the film but to our surprise, he won’t return for the second film of the franchise. But there is good news, one of my favorite horror actress will be playing Marybeth, Danielle Harris, I love her to death. I’m hearing great things about Hatchet 2 and here we get 2 new posters of the film(thanks to dreadcentral):

Click on the images for a bigger view.

And to my surprise, this looks rather bland!! Just 2 Hatchets? That’s a total ripoff of the first poster lol. But I do think they look really really cool and I’m going to forgive the “ripoff” angle here because this is just a teaser.

Here’s another horror film update of Marilyn Manson(& Evan Rachel Wood). But this is a new one. ‘Splatter Sisters” is advertised as a squashed genre film, sexploitation-slasher. Adam Lough wrote the screenplay of the film and David Gordon Green is set to direct. The director says: “This is a role Marilyn Manson was born to play and with Evan bringing dramatic gravity to the ensemble, I have no doubt this will take the horror genre to a new level.”

So, I like Marilyn Manson. And with his depth of weirdness, I believe he might just be a horror film gem in the rough. I don’t really like the idea of this film, but we’ll see.

So, I’ve been a little slow on the posting, I’m going through a busy time 😛 Anyways, this is a project of ‘Laid To Rest’ director Robert Hall. I really want to see Laid To Rest, 2 of my most liked horror blogs have given it a genuinely attracting review. I’ll watch it any day of the week now. Here’s his latest project and the following paragraph is totally from the original post from BloodyDisgusting:

Director Robert Hall (Lightning Bug, Laid to Rest, “Fear Clinic”) is gearing up for his latest horror endeavor that takes a new spin on the great 80’s metal myth. Old Scratch follows Neven, a washed up musician living his his own faded shadow in Atlanta. One night, after another sparsely attended gig one his his former bandmates Terry shows up and playes one of their own demo records backwards with fatal consequences. Now He must return to his roots and revisit a past he had hoped would stay forever buried. He has to find all six cursed demo records and decipher the eerie hidden messages before more blood is shed. We got our mitts on the official teaser that features Thomas Dekker (Laid to Rest, All About Evil, A Nightmare on Elm Street), Ashley Laurence (Hellraiser, and Kevin Gage (Chaos, Laid to Rest). What do you guys think?

Yeah so this idea is supposed to attract me! Check out the teaser trailer(which, by the way, I LOVED):

Share what you think.

By the way, Lamb Of God rules!!!(totally random).Randy Blythe is the shit!

Just Whoa! Here’s the thing, I’m really forgiving on movies, especially horror movies, but rarely do I call a film PERFECT. In my opinion, this is that type of rare gem. That’s why a little heads up before the review. Stay Tuned.

I also have another bit of news, sad news for me. I’m going through a busy time and that will lead to, me being slow on posting the whole month. I’m also getting behind on watching movies for this month. I’ll be back with more after 28th May, and by more I mean horror video games, scripts, books and comic book reviews!!!

Keep loving the genre!

Look what I stumbled across on Shock Till You Drop! The whole post I will write directly from the original post because originally I don’t have much to write, you’ll know why. Before that, I will say one thing. I’m a sucker for horror anthology, Trick R’ Treat, which I was lucky enough to see last year, was an anthology and it was one of the best horror flicks I’ve seen in a while. Enjoy! The plot actually sounds badass.

Sexual parasites, disembowelment, zombies, serial killers, demon children, violent vixens, rabid office workers and angry embryos all rear their heads in Slice of Life, a new anthology film from writer-director Anthony Sumner and writers Eric Richter and Alan Rowe Kelly.

In the film, Mira (Kaylee Williams) awakens in front of a seedy roadside motel with amnesia. She searches for clues to her identity in the pages of three bound sketchbooks, in which each book represents a different aspect of everyday life, maybe her life.

In “Work Life,” a lowly clerk at a nano technology firm unleashes a deadly virus at the office headquarters, giving new meaning to the term corporate zombie. Local girls begin to disappear in “Home Life” and a young pregnant woman is haunted by visions of evil demonic children hell bent on stealing her unborn fetus. Finally, in “Sex Life,” a young brother and sister on the run from a sexually abusive home life, take refuge in a countryside Victorian manor – only to discover the monsters hidden in this house have been looking for a new home.

Convinced that the characters from these books are roaming around the motel, Mira’s reality begins to crumble. Are these visions real or is she going insane? Desperate, Mira turns to the motel caretakers (Marv Blauvelt and Helene Alter-Dyche), only to discover the true evil bound in the flesh covered books and the destiny they hold for her.

Oh my god! Sounds promising, what do ya think?

Here’s a quick post. It’s a poster of George Romero’s latest zombie-flick ‘Survival Of The Dead’. Check it out and what do ya think? :
