Here’s a quick post. It’s a poster of George Romero’s latest zombie-flick ‘Survival Of The Dead’. Check it out and what do ya think? :

“Now THIS is how it’s done.”

Director: Breck Eisner.

Cast: Timothy ‘the awesome’ Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Danielle ‘the awesome’ Panabaker, Joe Anderson.

What’s It About

A peaceful small town. Everything is perfect, until when a rather zombie-ish guy interrupts a baseball match with a shotgun in his hand, it don’t need to be said that the Sheriff(Olyphant) saves the day. Similar unusual occurrence takes place, good guys going bad and killing their own families. The sheriff and his deputy sets out to find what’s wrong, as they were getting close, the government’s involvement turns the situation into an absolute chaos. And they all might just have a bigger problem than zombies(or infected)!

“Both of them did great. And the deputy here had to save the sheriffs ass a couple of times.”

The Pros

It’s been a while since I saw a strong-ass genre flick(last one was Dread). Much like Dread, the director and the actors(especially Olyphant) does an amazing job to capture the tone of the film. It is safe to say, they MADE the film.

“Here’s a Olyphant badass-ness for ya.”

The scenes that were supposed to be really intense were shot wonderfully. There were like 4 awesome scenes that had me at the edge of my seat and I just didn’t wanted them to end. And again, much thanks goes to Timothy Olyphant for his wonder performance that made those scenes look badass. After this and The Perfect Getaway, I am a big fan of the guy. By the way, “the almost nuts chopped off” scene was so fucking awesome that I had a bright look(figuratively of course) on my face the whole time. Oh and not to mention the “chaos caused by the government scene”.

“Holy Sweet Nuts! BTW, the whole scene was good marvelous.”

This movie just walks with the cliches yet making them interesting and not annoying. Hell yeah goes for the good job on jump scenes. I really hate jump scares that gives you a sudden “BOO!” with loud music and ends with the same way it started. But there were 4 or 5 of these sorta moments and they ACTUALLY WORKED. Yes, I’m admitting it, the “BOO!” worked!

The Cons

The CGI explosion near the end(you’ll know what I’m talking about) looked fake-ish. Nothing big, it’s just minor nit-picking from my part.

WTF!?

The government was freakier than the zombies!!!

“We are here to help. Or not.”

Gore & Violence

Decent amount of very well-done gore and plenty of awesome violence to be had here. This one is a WIN.

Overall

This is obviously one of the better remakes(I never saw the original of this one). Get yourself ready for a good time because I think this a strong and well-done film that’s supposed to make everyone happy, yes even people who are not a big fan of horror. A 8/10 for me.

“Now that’s a hell of a bad-ass poster. Click on the image for a bigger/better view”

Release Date: TBA 2010

Studio: After Dark Originals

Director: Valeri Milev

Screenwriter: Michael Hurst

Starring: Scott Adkins, Daniella Alonso, Bruce Payne, Roger R. Cross, Raicho Vasilev, Jesse Garcia, Rocky Marshall.

I don’t know any of the other actors but Scott Adkins being cast is great news. You might recognize him from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he was Weapon XI(apparently the worst thing about the movie, they fucked with Reynolds’ Wade Wilson!). But don’t lose faith in him just yet! He had a small role in last year’s mindless action flick The Tournament and he did some awesome stunts in it. But he permanently came to my notice with his cult action film Ninja and he proved he can act AND do kick-ass stunts. The movie was good entertainment as well. I’m waiting to check out his latest horror flick Stag Night which is not out here, yet. So I can assure he is good news. But the real good news is, the plot. It could be great if done right.

Plot Summary: Five years after the Outbreak, a zombie menace is supposed to be warning. But the brave men and women of R-Division, who find and destroy the undead, are seeing signs of a second Outbreak which humanity may not survive. The footage about the men and women of R-Division and their grim, dangerous but essential job of exterminating re-animated humans, was shot the week previous by an embedded journalist during a long, deadly day. Only the film survived.

So what do y’all think?

“I was worried ’cause the Batman Nipple guy was directing this film. I was surprised indeed!”

What’s It About

Apparently, Hitler had a thing for the power of Occult. He sent scholars searching for rune stones which apparently holds the power of immortality and they believed will help them win the war. But unfortunately the war started before the progress, and those scholars got stuck where they were and the place got buried in time(metaphorically). Then we see a guy working his ass off, and comes home to get his ass bullied by his sick father, this is exactly what’s wrong with parents. Anyways, we get to know that, 2 years earlier his brother got kidnapped/lost when they were camping together. He regrets this everyday of his life. Fortunately, all of a sudden, at night, his brother returns looking like what Joaquin Phoenix looks like now but with longer and faker beard. Oh and all dirty. So, he tells him nothing except to load guns and ammos to get revenge on those Nazi fuckers who kept him hostage all along. And as they do, chaos ensues.

The Pros

Okay seriously, I’m giving you some words. Occult, Nazi, Zombie, Necromancy, Gore. If you think any one of these words is cool then you are up for a real good time. I loved those zombie horses. And the bad guy, he was so badass.

This movie is really sophisticated. And I loved that. It is…like…something you have a chance of respecting. Okay, I give up explaining what I mean but you get the point right?

It’s a straight-to-DVD  film so you cannot expect very good acting, right? This is where it surprised me. I loved the acting of all the actors which is sort of rare these days.

Gore. Holy Shit the gore was awesome. It wasn’t all random and still managed to be fun. And I have a thing for shotgun-violence and there is PLENTY OF IT HERE!

The Cons

The plot-line is a little too rushed which may be the reason why it got a little boring while I was watching it for the second time.

Overall

It’s one of these campy-good time movies. ‘Think less and enjoy more’ mentality will help you LOVE this film. I’ll go with a B+.
